If you were not at our November Meetup, you missed. It was so much fun and we delivered on our promise – Great food, Great book, Great people. Our Chill Zone was, The Orchid Bistro, located in the heart of Ikeja GRA, Lagos and our book of the month was The Passport of Mallam Ilia.
It was a great experience. The environment was serene and green. We used the outdoor facility. I ordered steamed rice and chicken stir fry. Other members of the team tried the pastries (Meat pie, donuts and chicken pie). I loved my order. I enjoyed the food and I liked the presentation of the food. Other team members enjoyed the chicken pie above all else. There are lots of juicy details about The Orchid Bistro here.
Now to the book,
The Passport of Mallam Ilia by Cyprian Ekwensi is an amazing book about love, vengeance, society and culture. We enjoyed discussing this book and we shared true life experiences that intertwined the book.
It was a great book. Read our summary here and the review here.
Our key takeaway from The Passport of Mallam Ilia
Vengeance can take away your life while you live. Is it really worth your lifetime?
We understand that it is easy to say when you are not the one in the position. However, we have all been in the position where it feels like the universe’s vengeance is not enough compared to the thoughts you plan to execute in revenge. However, seek peace, don’t leave in regret and bitterness. Move on! Don’t imprison your future in a bitter past. Don’t let it define you. Find a happy place, let your success and peace be your revenge.
There were a few undertones on the objectification of women, gender violence, fragile male egos, parental failures and the broken system of the government.
There will be no meetup in December, however, our book of the month is: Purple Hibiscus.
