Our November Meetup was so much fun. We met at The Orchid Bistro, located in the heart of Ikeja GRA, Lagos to discuss The Passport of Mallam Ilia.
It was a great experience. Let’s start with the environment.
The environment was serene and green. We used the outdoor facility and that had an amazing ambiance. Orchid Bistro sells plants and flowers as well as food and pastries, hence the nature setting outdoors.
I ordered pasta the last time I was there, so I decided to try the steamed rice and chicken stir fry. Other members of the team tried the pastries (Meat pie, donuts and chicken pie). I loved my order. I enjoyed the food and I liked the presentation of the food. It was seasoned right and the vegetables were crunchy. Other team members enjoyed the chicken pie above all else. The drinks however, took forever to come (because it is “freshly made”). I was personally disappointed with the lemonade, so I ended up drinking water, the rest of the day.
It is one of the average priced food places in Lagos. My food cost ₦5500, Lemonade cost ₦1000, Chicken Pie was ₦350. Also, we were charged a service fee which is a percentage of the amount spent. The percentage increases when the number of people are greater than 10.
Surprisingly, cold water (with or without lime) is free. I guess this is to pacify you for the duration of time it takes to bring the food and drinks. The waiters were nice people, smiled often, looked clean and they were patient.
All in all, it is a great and serene environment to experience in this crazy Lagos. However, it needs maintenance. The tables (wood) need treatment. The plants need more care and that lemonade definitely needs more work. Most importantly, the waiters need to increase their speed. Ultimately, Orchid Bistro is one of the coolest places to eat on Lagos Mainland.
